Ears are most often fully developed by the time a child turns 4 years old, and although there are no additional risks associated with performing otoplasty later in life, the ear cartilage in a young patient's ears will typically be very pliable and therefore easier to mold. Correcting any ear deformity at an early age can also protect a child from ridicule while he or she is growing up.
