Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a type of plastic surgery performed in order to remove excess skin, muscle or fat from the upper or lower eyelids. Puffiness under the eyes, drooping skin on the upper eyelids or excess fat or skin on the eyelids may all make a person a potential candidate for blepharoplasty. This surgery is often performed along with a brow lift in order to improve crow's feet and sagging or droopy eyebrows.

In addition to reversing the effects of aging, eyelid surgery may help with a medical condition called ptosis, which may be caused by nerve damage or poor muscle tone. When the eyelids droop low or are puffy, this may actually impair vision. In addition to seeing aesthetic results from this procedure, patients may also experience an increase in function of their eyelid elevation.
